Conference Barn
Lead Designer

Experience: Rustic; cozy; multifunctional

Stage: In design

The client for this project had an existing foundation poured for a wine cellar that did not end up happening. â€‹

Our challenge was to work with the existing foundation and provide a design for a conference room, office, workout room, garage, and wine cellar. The exterior of the building was to reflect another building the ranch owns while also adopting a "trapper cabin" feel.

Pheasant Dr. Shop
Lead Designer, PA assistent

Experience: A place to make lovely furniture.

Stage: Under construction (Feb 2023)

This shop space will serve as a talented furniture maker's shop. It is also in the design to be easily transitioned into an additional dwelling unit if needed in the future.

Sourdough Remodel
Lead designer and lead PA

Experience: home; productivity and efficiency; peace

The homeowner for this project wanted to transform the feeling of the existing spaces in materials and form. This renovation adds a modern, clean feel, adds more usable space, provides more efficiency to their farm, and an additional dwelling unit to provide passive income.

Hybrid Internship Lead

With the owner, Rob Evans, we wanted to provide an opportunity for local university students to have a similar experience as I did in an internship. I made a flyer to promote a hybrid internship to teach students construction and architectural design practices.

Construction at Constructive Solutions Inc. (CSI)

After completing my BA in Environmental Design at Montana State University, I immediately found a job in the construction industry to design efficiently, communicate clearly, adopt a better understanding of how materials work, and challenge the quarrels and redundancies between architects and contractors.

Jackson Creek Chapel

This chapel was built 30 minutes outside of Bozeman, MT.  I was a part of the following:

  • Forming and pouring the foundation

  • Building premanufactured walls and roof

  • Mobilizing, handling, squaring, cutting, scribing, and planing logs

  • Securing the premanufactured roof after installation

  • Int. and ext. siding, trim, repurposed flooring.

  • Rough sawn ceiling

  • Assisting masons

What I learned:

  • 8' concrete forms are heavy

  • Make sure you have everything you need before you are 30 mins away without service

  • Premanufacturing methods

Belle Creek Residence

Our company ensued this project through an expert witness case where CSI was hired to determine the legitimacy of the current contractor. We were then employed to finish construction. The home had the foundation poured and the floor, walls, and roof mostly framed.

I was a part of the following:

  • Wall and roof fixing and framing

  • Big timber truss prefabrication and installation

  • Siding

  • Flooring

  • Trim prefabrication and installation

What I learned

  • Do it right the first time

  • Everything takes longer when there is snow on the ground

  • Think about how you will install each material and how you might make it easier and faster

Concrete

CSI does a lot of concrete work.

Pouring and forming foundations and flatwork, decorative concrete, and staining concrete.

What I have learned:

  • How to use a laser level

  • Concrete is formed thinking from the top down

  • Access is important for the whole construction process. It will bring the whole cost up if there is little access or if the site is hard to manage

  • You won't need a gym membership if you do concrete

  • Concrete has an attitude and is not forgiving

  • You will hit your hand with a hammer
